Up/Rooting > a migrant plants garden
La Siesta is a symbolic rhythmic journey through the Black Atlantic, connecting stories of migration, colonialism and resistance. As a participatory act of restitution, audience members received handwritten papers with the originary and Indigenous names of the migrant plants growing in Up/Rooting, in languages such as Nahuatl, Tupi-Guarani and Arawak. The gesture invited us to remember names, meanings and relationships with plants that existed long before European classification.
